Central Excise & Customs , Bhubaneswar-I & II essentially deal with the Central Excise & Customs administration in the State of Orissa. Also the Commissionerates monitor and supervise the levy and collection of Central Excise & Customs duties in the State through the fileld formations. Initially the work of Central Excise & Customs in the State of Orissa was looked after by the unified Central Excise & Customs Commissionerate of West Bengal . With the expansion of Industry in the State of Orissa and with a view of taking the administration of Central Excise & Customs within the reach of trade and industry of Orissa , the unified West Bengal Commissionerate was bifurcated and a separate Commissionerate at Bhubaneswar for the State of Orissa was formed in the year 1975. Again to make the administration more accessible and faster to the trade and industry of Western Orissa , the Central Excise & Customs Bhubaneswar was divided into Commissionerate of Bhubaneswar-I & Bhubaneswar-II . It is how the Commissionerate of Bhubaneswar-I & II have come into existence.

REVENUE

The total collection of Central Excise & Customs duties for both the Commissionerates is Rs. 1789.38 Crores out of which the contribution of Central Excise is Rs. 1467.82 Crores, Customs is Rs. 168.61 Crores and Service Tax is Rs.152.95 Crores (2004-2005 figures).Further there is one major Customs House at Paradeep under Bhubaneswar-I Commissionerate which caters to the import and export needs of trade and industry of Orissa.

MAJOR COMMODITIES

The major commodities contributing more revenue in Bhubaneswar-I Commissionerate are Aluminium, Paper, Refractory Products,  Tyres,Aerated Water and Synthetic Yarn. The major commodities in Bhubaneswar-II are Steel, Cement, Aluminium, Sugar and Refractory bricks.
